MEDICAL practitioners from Gloucestershire were recognised for their significant contribution to commercial research in the NHS.

Awards were presented to principal investigators working for the National Institute for Health Research at Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust in a prestigious event hosted at the British Medical Association in London.

Principal investigators are responsible for the local delivery of studies at research sites.

In a category noting researchers who had successfully produced their first commercial study, Dr Roswell Martin (Neurology) and Dr Sarah Wexler (Cancer), who both work within the Gloucestershire Trust, were commended.

West of England acting industry operations manager Holly Yeylaghi, who attended the event, said: “We are proud that so many of our local principal investigators were recognised for their contribution to commercial research supported by the NIHR.

“This is a fantastic achievement and speaks volumes for the great level of commitment and enthusiasm for commercial research that we have in our region.”

The event coincided with the 10th anniversary of the NIHR.
