A BOOK fair returns to Easter Compton this month, for its 11th consecutive year.

The South West Observer’s book fair will feature displays of thousands of collectable and vintage books, most of which will be available for sale or swapping.

The fair will take place on Saturday, April 9, from 10am to 12.30pm at the Easter Compton Village Hall.

One of the main series of books in focus is the Observer’s pocket series, but a number of other genres and collectable series are set to feature, including children’s books, natural history and transport.

As well as buying from the stalls, there will also be an opportunity to bid for books and artifacts in a special auction of some of the rarer items towards the end of the event.

Event organiser, and book collector, Richard Edwards said: “For a relatively short event that’s all over in about two and a half hours, it’s amazing that we attract visitors from all over the country.

“It’s run on behalf of a book collectors’ society of about 500 members nationally. The secretary Richard Fuller, drives down from Glasgow and others come from places including Yorkshire, Humberside, London, South Wales and Cornwall.

“We get a lot of local people too, some of them serious collectors but often just popping in out of curiosity. They like to find out more about books that they remember fondly from the past and to know of their rarity.

“Many even bring their books with them to get some free advice and a valuation, which the stall holders and members are happy to provide”.
