YOUTH café staff and volunteers in Yate were given a helping hand to clear up their unkempt garden on Saturday (April 23).

Members of Yate Rotary Club rolled up their sleeves to help give the Armadillo Youth Venue and Café a much-needed ‘mini makeover’.

The club had sourced a range of plants with funds granted by Yate Rotary and during the planting day, members Peter Kirby, Duncan Goodland and Ken Hopley joined Armadillo business support and marketing manager Carene Whiting-Hays and youth events manager June Yeoman, along with a group of young volunteers, to spruce up the garden and make it an outdoor space teenagers will enjoy.

Mr Kirby said the planting session was a ‘wonderful’ event and praised the young volunteers for their enthusiasm and determination.

Mrs Whiting-Hays said plans for the garden at the Armadillo were finally taking shape along with the support of Yate Rotary.

She added: “We have lots of ideas in the pipeline, such as exercise equipment and bright colourful deck chairs. But none of this would be possible without the support and funding we receive from local groups and companies.”
