TODAY marks six years since Iron Acton grandfather Barry Rubery was brutally murdered in his home but his devastated daughter says not enough is being done by police to find the killer.

Mr Rubery, a 68-year-old grandfather, was murdered on Wednesday, April 28 2010.

He was found in the porch of his home, Crossing Cottage on Latteridge Road, the following morning on Thursday, April 29 2010. He had suffered serious head injuries and his hands and legs were bound together with cable ties.

The unsolved case has baffled police and despite Crimewatch appeals, a £10,000 reward and numerous television documentaries, no-one has ever been arrested and police admit they have no motive for the killing.

Mr Rubery's daughter Julie told the Gazette she had not been contacted by anyone from Avon and Somerset Constabulary this week.

"I had to call them," she said. "They haven't called me and when I did speak to them the only thing I was told is the Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the case is retiring.

"So it looks like a sixth person will be taking over. How can they ever get to grips with the case with so many different people in charge?"

She added: "When I did speak to them there was not one mention of the date and the fact it was the anniversary this week.

"They have not told me anything concrete, only that DCI Mike Williams is retiring and could leave at any time. That is not what I want to be hearing."

Julie, who last year collaborated with renowned investigator Donal Macintyre for a documentary which aired on CBS Reality in November, said she had not been given confidence in the police investigation.

"Last year when we were filming the investigating officer did not speak to the programme makers at all, which was disappointing," she said. "All the other cases featured had their investigating police force on camera. It feels as though ours is not interested and DCI Williams hasn't given me much confidence. He was just put in charge but didn't even know certain people involved.

"I don't want a call to say there is no update but I am getting to the stage where I don't really hear anything."

Mr Rubery, a well-liked regular at the Lamb Inn in Iron Acton, is believed to have been murdered shortly after arriving home from a meal at the Masonic Lodge in Downend. He was last seen alive at 10.45pm on April 28 by friends Chris Lock and Ken Bishop who dropped him off at his home after the dinner.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said extensive investigations continue and a dedicated team remain on the case examining witness statements and information.

In a statement, DCI Mike Williams said: “While a number of years have passed since Barry’s death, we have not given up on this investigation.

"We are constantly reviewing information and making further enquiries in a bid to bring the person or people responsible for Barry’s death to justice.

“We want to provide some closure to Barry’s family who still cannot understand why their father and grandfather was taken from them in such a brutal manner.

“We will not give up on this investigation and as time goes by the offender or offenders are simply making matters worse. I would urge you to come forward and contact us before we find you.”

A gold Masonic watch, which was brought for £800 18 years ago was stolen and may now be worth a significant amount, and a Makita drill were stolen on the night of the murder. Anyone who may know where these items are or anyone who may have been offered them for sale is asked to come forward as they could hold a vital information.

Added Julie: "I am still praying that somebody gets a conscious or falls out with someone and will come forward.

"Someone has to know who did this, it is impossible that no-one knows."

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
