ROVERS head into the final game of the league season knowing that automatic promotion is still possible after a resounding 4-1 victory at York on Saturday.

We went into the fixture at Bootham Crescent knowing that three points were essential if we were to have any hope of overtaking Accrington or Oxford in the top three.

The Gas quickly moved into top gear as Bodin continued his fine run of form by giving us the lead in the 19th minute. He added to his tally with another clinical finish just after the break to make the scoreline more comfortable as already relegated York offered little resistance to Rovers’ dominance.

When Easter also netted, the points were well and truly safe and we kept our fingers crossed that Oxford or Accrington might stumble.

But with Oxford winning at Carlisle and Accrington taking the lead at Wycombe, hopes of moving above them faded and it became clear that we would all be heading into a decisive final day to determine our destiny.

York gained a consolation goal and Mansell put the gloss on an excellent performance with a decent strike as the game ended 4-1.

We now need to beat Dagenham & Redbridge at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday and hope that either Accrington or Oxford fail to win at home to Stevenage and Wycombe respectively.

The likeliest scenario seems to be that we all win, but final days of the season often produce shock twists and turns which means that we have to be focused on our job and not be distracted by events elsewhere.

As long as we defeat Dagenham we will be ready to take advantage of any slip-up in the other games.

If that doesn’t happen we would head into the play-offs in excellent form and finishing fourth this season is a brilliant achievement, way beyond our wildest hopes at the start of the campaign.

By 5pm on Saturday we will either be celebrating promotion or preparing for a play-off with AFC Wimbledon for the right to appear in a second successive Wembley final and the chance to win promotion.
