THE town council in Dursley revealed this morning that there has been several instances of vandalism and anti-social behaviour on the town's recreation ground this week.

Gym equipment has been vandalised, storage areas broken into and nearby properties damaged by an unknown person or people.

The town's mayor Clare Nelmes has said the "mindless action" left her disappointed and urged anyone with any information to contact the police.

”I am disappointed to hear of the recent vandalism on 'the rec' and surrounding area,” said Cllr Nelmes.

"The mindless actions of a few spoil the enjoyment for the whole community.

"The town council will arrange to repair the damaged equipment as soon as possible but I would request anyone with information on the recent incidents contact the police on the non-emergency telephone number."

As well as damage to gym equipment, the window of a nearby property was broken. A compound and football shed, both belonging to the town council, were also broken into and vandalised.

The town clerk told the Gazette that several used laughing gas canisters had been strewn across the field.

He wrote on the council's website: "The council's main source of income comes from the taxpayer and paying to repair damage to the equipment reduces the funds available for improvements."

If you have any information that may be useful to police contact them on 101.
