A MAIN road through Yate is closed this morning after thieves blew up a cash machine, causing significant damage to a shop.
The attack, which happened at 3.30am this morning, was on the Tesco Express store on Station Road.
The shop has been closed and the road is shut to traffic.
Station Road leads to Yate Train Station and commuters have been warned of major disruption this morning, with the road not expected to reopen for some time.
DS Adam Smith said: “A full and thorough investigation into this attack is being carried out but while our enquiries are at a very early stage we’d like to warn the public about possible disruption.
“The road has been closed off for safety reasons and to allow specialist crime scene investigators to examine the scene.
“The road is expected to be closed for some time and we’d like to recommend motorists avoid the area."
The attack comes after two cash points were blown up in Winterbourne last Thursday (May 5) and follows a spate of similar attacks across the Bristol area.
