A YEAR 1 and 2 teacher who has brought multi-faith education to a primary school in Yate has been nominated in our Teacher of the Year competition.

Tamara Hambly, who rejoined North Road Primary School in September after completing training at university, also runs the school’s most popular club in its history, a construction club after school where pupils can make models from Lego.

Miss Hambly, 24, who lives in Yate, recently helped her class write to Greenpeace after studying a book about a whale and received a reply from the organisation.

She said: “I love teaching at North Road because there is such a supportive community for both children and staff.

“I love making the learning fun for my children. I feel quite honoured to have been nominated and my family is very proud.”

Miss Hambly was nominated by student Jack Gray, who said: “Miss Hambly helps me to learn very well.

Voting in the competition is now open. One winner will be selected for the Stroud district area (Dursley, Cam, Berkeley and Wotton), another winner for the Thornbury patch and also a winner for Yate and Chipping Sodbury.

Their prize will be a meal-for-two at one of the Gazette’s Pub of the Year winners – The Falcon Steakhouse in Wotton; The Royal Oak in Cromhall; the Rose and Crown in Rangeworthy – as well as a trophy.

Voting is open until Friday, June 3, and over the next two weeks we will be profiling our finalists.
