TRIBUTES have poured in for a 14-year-old boy who died following a crash in Berkeley.

Louis Eldridge, a student at Dursley's Rednock School, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital after the bike he was riding was in collision with a car on Friday night.

Louis remained in a critical condition until Saturday afternoon when he died as a result of his injuries.

Michael Eldridge and Kate Free, parents of Louis, released a statement just after 9pm on Sunday evening.

They said: "Our beautiful son Louis sadly passed away at 1.30pm on May 21, 2016. He was very much loved and cherished by his mum and dad, Mike and Kate, and all his family and friends.

"We would like to thank you for your kind words and prayers."

Shortly after Louis died on Saturday, Rednock School issued a statement, assuring his fellow students that support would be offered to those affected by the loss.

The spokesman said: "As you are aware one of our students, Louis Eldridge, has passed away following a serious car accident on Friday evening.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Louis.

"It is at times like this that the community is vital; the school will do everything that it can to support those near and dear to Louis and to support any student affected by this sad loss.

"We have counsellors and trained support staff ready to help the students . The school will pull together to ensure that we do all that we can at this time."

Many took to social media to pay tribute to the popular teenager.

Amongst them was Sharpness & District Youth Club describing Louis as being "full of beans" in a Facebook post.

It read: "He always came across as a young man full of beans and I'm sure will be sadly missed by all who know him, and it's always so sad to hear of any child fatality."

On Facebook, Charlie Cole wrote: “Gunna miss you so much brother. Can’t believe you have gone. RIP my man”

Rosie Holloway posted: "RIP Louis you’re dearly missed man, fly high up there we’re all looking up to you, heart goes out to his family and friends, so sad to see you go so young”

The youth club will hand over donations from a gathering this evening to Louis' family.

Additionally, a crowd funding page set up by Lindsey Green of Berkeley has already raised more than £300. The page can be found here.

The collision happened at 7.35pm on Station Road in Wanswell with a Volkswagen Polo under the railway bridge on Friday, May 20.

No-one else was injured.

The road was closed while a collision investigation took place and reopened just after 12.30am on Saturday.

Anyone who witnessed the collision but hasn't spoken to police should call 101 and quote incident 479 of 20 May.
