FRIDAY’S debate in Chipping Sodbury on the EU Referendum will be a full house after all tickets were snapped up.

The 300 free tickets for the event, organised by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall and sponsored by the Gazette, have now been allocated and registration has now closed.

The town hall where it will be held will be packed to capacity to hear two speakers discuss the pros and cons of leaving and staying in Europe.

Conservative south Swindon MP Robert Buckland will speak for the Stronger In campaign and East of England MEP David Campbell Bannerman, also a Tory, will talk for the Brexit campaign.

Each speaker will have five minutes to present their arguments in an uninterrupted talk before five main topics, with questions from the audience, will be discussed. There will also be an open question and answer session for any questions remaining.

Ahead of the debate, we are asking if Gazette readers have made up their minds yet on how they intend to vote in the referendum on June 23.

Mr Hall, who has already announced he will vote to remain in the EU in the referendum on June 23, will chair the debate and said he wants to provide local people with both sides of the argument.

“I will be neutral at the event,” he said.

“This issue is bigger than party politics and is one of the most important decisions this country will face in our lifetimes.

“I am certain that both of our speakers will be able to offer robust arguments both in favour of remaining and leaving, so I hope the event will be helpful as people make up their minds.”

If you missed out on tickets to the debate, the Gazette will be bringing you live coverage in a blog on our website gazetteseries.co.uk and reporter Alexandra Womack will be tweeting during the event. Follow @GlosGazette and @AlexandraWomack
