WORCESTERSHIRE'S No 10 batsman, Jack Shantry, scored his second career century in a remarkable assault on Gloucestershire’s bowling at New Road.
Unbeaten with 39 when Tom Kohler-Cadmore was ninth out for 169. Shantry got to 50 from 79 balls and took only 14 more to reach his hundred with five sixes and three fours in his second 50.
The ground erupted when a huge blow into the chestnut trees took him to three figures after hitting 11 fours and six sixes.
Two overs from Craig Miles cost 44 runs and when Shantry was bowled by Liam Norwell for a run-a-ball, career-best 106, last man Charlie Morris had not scored in a partnership of 69 in 59 balls.
Resuming on 341 for eight, Worcestershire unexpectedly secured maximum batting points after Kohler-Cadmore was caught behind the wicket off Norwell at 370 for nine.
Shantry had been given a let-off when a sliced shot off David Payne dropped between a ring of fielders, and Gloucestershire were made to pay as Worcestershire posted a total of 439, having added 405 since losing half their side for 34 in the first hour of the match.
Shantry was not finished there. When Gloucestershire batted, he took the new-ball and bowled Chris Dent for 5 as the visitors made 22 for 1 by lunch.
