BOY racers who are abusing a Chipping Sodbury car park at night are being warned they could lose the use of their cars.

Police are sending a stern message to the owners of the vehicles being driven at speed around the car park outside Waitrose supermarket that officers have the power to take away their cars.

The problem of nuisance drivers, or boy racers as they are commonly referred to, has been ongoing outside the supermarket for some time.

Chipping Sodbury beat manager PC Dan Jones told the Gazette: “Boy racers near to the Waitrose car park are causing a nuisance some evenings by racing around.

“We want to warn them that they are at risk of losing their cars if they continue and we catch them doing it.”

He said people living near the car park, in the new Barnhill Quarry development and opposite in Ross Close and Couzens Close, are asked to help police by letting them know when the problems persist.

Added PC Jones: “I want to urge residents to call in at the time they are doing it so we can get an idea of times and encourage them to get registrations as this will help us too.”

Anyone who spots the racers is asked to call police on 101.
