THOUSANDS of music fans descended on Thornbury for the Rick’s Ink charity festival on the Mundy Playing Fields last weekend.

The annual family-orientated festival, which was held for the fourth time on the Mundy Playing Fields on July 23-24, featured a range of live acts including bands and DJs and beer and food tents, as well as fairground rides and bouncy castles for the younger visitors – all in aid of fundraising for Cancer Research UK.

With more than 3,000 in attendance through the day, and donations still coming in, it is believed that around £5,000 was raised through the event for the charity.

Many visitors took to social media after the event to say how much they enjoyed their time at the festival.

Stacey Taylor wrote on the festival Facebook page: “Was so good Saturday. Really enjoyed the day, best one by far. Roll on next year!”

Natalie Chisnell added: “Well done to all that have organised this event, I think that gets a bit lost in all the excitement!”

Festival organiser Rickie Kingscott, who runs Thornbury-based tattoo business Rick’s Ink, said: “It was amazing how many people came out to support the event. You can’t ask for a better community than Thornbury for getting behind a good cause.

“It was such a relaxed atmosphere, everyone was there to enjoy themselves and chill out.

“We were so lucky with the weather, it definitely helped to bring more people out.

“Organising the event was a lot of hard work but it’s brilliant to see everything having fallen into place at the right time.”

On raising money for the charity, Rickie’s wife Becky said: “We feel everyone is effected in some way by cancer, so what is more rewarding than giving to a charity close to everyone’s heart? Nothing!”

“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and helped us make the day a success. Thornbury Litterbusters and Mundy Playing Fields groundsman Paul LeRiche for their efforts, as well as the help from Russell Camp from the Wheatsheaf, and Sandra Davies from The Swan.”

Rickie added: “We would also like to thank Technivents big time for helping us out last minute by providing a sound system after we had been let down. It meant the show could go on.”
