THERE is still time to sign up to this year’s summer reading challenge in libraries throughout Gloucestershire.

A number of events with a Roald Dahl theme are on offer this month as libraries in the county join the fun of The Big Friendly Read .

Clay modelling and craft sessions will give children the opportunity to make their favourite characters from some of Dahl's most popular books, including The Big Friendly Giant and The Fantastic Mr Fox.

Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for libraries, said: “I am very pleased to say that lots of children have already taken part in the challenge this year, which is great fun, but also helps stop the dip in reading levels over the summer.

"Our library staff are making the events fun and exciting for our younger readers.

“I encourage all families to take part and enjoy the events taking place across the county to help us make this the best summer reading challenge yet.”

Contact your local library or go to eventbrite.co.uk/o/gloucestershire-libraries-3143135002 to find out how to take part.
