THE hard work of students at Chipping Sodbury School paid off with results “significantly up on last year”.

This year’s crop of Year 13s increased the average point score per entry for academic qualifications to 206 whilst the average score for vocational subjects also rose – to 220.

Not a single student will have to go through to secure last-minute university places.

Head of sixth form, Gill Hilleard, said she was “really proud” of students’ achievements this year.

“I’m really proud of everyone’s results,” she said. “They are significantly up on last year so we are really pleased.

“To have no one have to go through clearing is a testament to the work of staff and also of students.

“Some of these people I will have taught in Year 7, so it’s really overwhelming to see the progress they’ve made and success they’ve achieved in these years here.”

One of the school’s highest achievers, Scott Mason, will begin a degree in maths at the University of Nottingham after being awarded an A* in maths and two A grades.

Speaking to the Gazette, the 18-year-old said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the results I’d got. I’m really happy.

“I was a bit nervous waiting to find out my results but I’m looking forward to starting at university in September.”

Ellis Brine, 18, had been counting down the days until results day from her final exam and was delighted when she discovered she had done well enough to start a degree in physics at the University of Exeter next month.

Fifty three days after completing her last exam, Ellis said she was “delighted” when she found out she had secured an A and two B grades.

“I jumped on my mum when I found out my results yesterday,” she said. “I’m delighted that I got the results I did as I was so nervous waiting for them.”

Matching Ellis’ results, a “relieved” Millie Woods, 18, will start a degree in anatomy at Cardiff University in September.

She said: “I am extremely relieved to have the results I do. I was really nervous waiting for them but I’m so happy now.”
