A DETERMINED young man from Breadstone, who was left paralysed from the neck down after a car accident in 2013, has completed his second Tough Mudder challenge.

Rob Camm, 22, was able to take part in the stamina-testing 12-mile muddy obstacle course in Cirencester Park on Saturday, August 21, with his team of eight family and friends alongside him, thanks to a pioneering wheelchair which he can control with his chin.

Rob became the world’s only tetraplegic to complete the challenge for the first time last year, despite problems with the battery life of his wheelchair.

However, this year, Rob overcame this problem with the help of a custom trailer, made by a friend, which carried extra batteries, allowing him to cut his course time significantly.

The life changing injuries that Rob sustained from a car accident three years ago, just days before he was due to start at York University, have meant that in order to complete this challenge, he has had to overcome emotional and physical challenges of his own.

The inspiring adventurer told the Gazette “I wanted to do it again because I enjoyed the challenge of completing it and being part of the team in doing so.”

“I like testing myself and this event gives me the chance to do it.”

After completing the course Rob was presented with a green headband, marking his achievement of completing two Tough Mudder obstacle courses.
