POLICE cadets will be joining a Gloucestershire Constabulary operation in Cam on Saturday, September 10, to offer residents a chance to have valuable belongings specially-marked in order to make them less appealing to burglars.

The anti-burglary scheme was adopted in Cam in June after police secured around 1,000 kits for the local community.

So far, nearly 400 homes have been visited and tomorrow special constables and police cadets will be out in force together visiting dozens more.

The Smartwater forensic property-marking kits are an effective deterrent because the special liquid used makes it harder for thieves to pass or sell the property on to others.

It is the second such operation carried out by Gloucestershire Constabulary's community harm reduction team.

The first started back in 2014 where residents in St Paul's in Cheltenham were offered a similar service. The result of the operation contributed to a 70 per cent drop in burglaries in the area.
