THE quiet village of Frampton on Severn was transformed into a hive of activity on Sunday as more than 14,000 people flocked to enjoy the Frampton Country Fair.

Returning for its 31st year, the renowned agricultural show went from strength to strength with a vast array of activities and events to celebrate the very best of the countryside.

The 30 acres of beautiful parkland of Frampton Court Estate were bathed in sunshine as they played host to ferret racing, falconry displays, livestock shows and dog competitions.

The amazing riding skills of Atkinson Action Horses drew large crowds and once again Stroud MP Neil Carmichael made an appearance in his iconic Massey Ferguson during the popular classic and modern tractor parade.

Amongst the equine stars was none other than Poldark’s mount, from the popular TV series.

Visitors winded their way through the Farmer’s Market and more than 400 different trade stalls to sample some of the best food, drink and craft the county has to offer.

Meanwhile children enjoyed circus skills, clown shows, entertainers and got to try their hand at countryside living workshops.

Highlights of the day included an aerobatic display from top pilot Simon Johnson and parachute jump from Jump4Heroes, who were helping to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

The main stage also welcomed gun dog training, simulated coursing and the controversial mass parade of the hounds, which saw seven hunts from the South West gather to exercise their dogs and horses.

Fair spokesman, Cecil Weir, said that much of the events success is down to its emphasis on rural skills and values.

“At its heart Frampton Country Fair is all about showcasing skills and traditions which have helped to shape the countryside around us – something which at times is all too easy to take for granted,” he said.

“It’s often said that there is something for everyone at Frampton which is absolutely true – an opportunity to get up close and personal with a Turkmenian Eagle Owl, tree climbing for daredevil children, fly casting tuition or a freshly made pizza made in a kiln in a Mini.”
