A CHARITY has received a cash boost to help its outreach advice service at Dursley Library.

Dursley Lions Club has donated £1,000 to Citizens Advice Stroud District which provides free, confidential and impartial advice to people in the area.

Sally Pickering, chief officer of the charity, said: “This money will support our outreach advice service in Dursley Library.

“Although we provide a Freephone telephone advice service as well, many people need to see someone face to face - especially if their problems are complex - and we know that access to services can be a problem for some people who are disabled or don’t have their own transport.”

The Citizens Advice Service is provided by a team of volunteer advisers who can help people with a range of problems including money management, employment, housing, family and relationship issues.

Richard Stannard, welfare chairman at Dursley Lions Club, said: “We recognise the valuable service that Citizens Advice provides in our community but also that volunteers aren’t free, so we are very happy to contribute to the costs of ensuring this local, high quality service is maintained.”
