Youngsters will soon have better access to a skatepark in Wotton-under-Edge.

Over 3000 visitors use 'Wotton Community Parc' every week - with their skatepark also being very popular amongst young people.

To make the enhancements, including the access path to the skatepark, Wotton Community Sports Foundation (WCSF) received a grant of £11,328 from the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust.

The path will link to the existing safe path between Wotton and the Katharine Lady Berkeley School. It will cross into the Wotton Community Parc site and end at the skatepark.

Barnaby Beere, chairman of The Wotton Community Sports Foundation (WCSF), said: “The path will provide a safe, smooth access into the site for those wishing to use the skatepark and the walking trail.

“In the longer term, the path will allow access to the further developments planned on the site, including a BMX track, memory walk, sensory garden and children’s play area,” added Barnaby.

The path has been designed specifically to be fully accessible to all visitors for everyone in the community to enjoy.

Their grant was been combined with other donations, including Section 106 funds from the development of the former Stokes’ Bakery site in Wotton-under-Edge. There was also very generous support from Barnwood Trust - as part of their Building Inclusive Communities programme to create more welcoming and inclusive communities across Gloucestershire Work started on the project on September 23, with a target for completion of early November.

WCSF will be holding a formal opening ceremony in the middle of November.

Further details of this, and updates on the construction progress, will be posted on the WCSF Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/WCSF-Wotton-Community-Sports-Foundation-613966692037524/, and on their Twitter feed @WCSF_Wotton.
