THORNBURY and Yate MP Luke Hall has joined a pub in Thornbury to celebrate their official reopening.

The Royal George, which has undergone a dramatic transformation, having been the Mezze for the past few years, has now been open for a number of weeks, but was officially opened with a ribbon cutting by the MP on September 30.

The pub boasts a modern new interior from the £290,000 renovation, including a new bar towards the back of the building.

To offer continuity to the regulars, the business has continued to remain food-focussed, with all the staff from the Mezze have all been retained, along with a few new employees.

Manager Dorian Miclos, who was particularly delighted to announce it would be dog friendly – a point made evident from the number of portraits of dogs in naval uniforms adorning the walls.

“Historically, allowing dogs in pubs was frowned upon. But now, more than ever, pubs are beginning to appreciate the benefits dogs have in increasing the ambiance of the pub,” he said.

“The Royal George is very much a local pub and we wanted our dog policy to reflect that by making the site accessible for all our regulars – including those with four legs.”

Mr Hall, who was given the chance to get behind the bar and pull a pint, praised the new owners, saying: “The investment in Thornbury by the Bermondsey Company is a great endorsement for our town, and I would like to wish Dorian and the team the very best as they become part of Thornbury’s unique offer here.”
