SHOPPERS in Yate were given the chance to get nostalgic last night, being treated to a special Christmas concert featuring an array of household names.

Hundreds of people gathered at Yate Shopping Centre for this year’s Christmas Musical Spectacular, which included performances from Atomic Kitten, S Club, Kavana and Black Lace.

Opening the show was Yate singer-songwriter Jake Maddocks, who got the crowd suitably warmed up with a string of covers including Calum Scott’s Dancing On My Own.

Next up was Yate barber Ben Lea, channelling his musical theatre background to deliver an energetic performance of Proud Mary – complete with dance moves straight out of the Tina Turner playbook.

Eurovision and pop legends Black Lace braved the cold to make their presence on the stage known with their trademark Hawaiian shirts, effortlessly getting the crowd singing along to hits including Music Man, Superman, Time Warp and Agadoo.

Nineties star Kavana, a last minute addition to the lineup, was the fourth act on stage mixing his own hits like I Can Make You Feel Good with other pop greats including Take That’s Back For Good.

The audience were on their feet and dancing as the remaining three members of S Club, Jo, Bradley and Tina, delved into their collection of pop anthems with performances of their biggest songs including Reach, Never Had a Dream Come True, Don’t Stop Movin’ and Bring it all Back – as well as a cover of Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk.

Closing the evening were Liz, Tash and Kerry from Atomic Kitten whose constant banter between songs got everyone laughing. But with performances of classics including The Tide is High, Eternal Flame and Whole Again.
