Peter Belcher, from Frenchay, submitted this picture of his football team his class at Yate Ridge County Primary, from 1966 to 1967.
From left to right back row: class teacher Mr Paine, Michael Dunne, Stephen Mainwaring, Ian Griffiths, Brian Harris, Timothy Golden, Jonathon Maidment, and headmaster Howard Lewis. Front row: David Steer, Steven Bentley, Stephen Henderson, Peter Belcher and Stephen Minchin.
Peter said: “We had great fun on the back of England’s 1966 World Cup win, with a pretty good team and a pretty good season.”
He summarised: “We beat Steve Flynn’s and Derby rivals, St Mary’s 5-2, home and away, and put twelve past Minchinhampton – a school record at the time.
We drew 0-0 once v Longwell Green - Steve Henderson rushing back to clear off the line via the inside of a post. We only lost once, with 3-2 to Thornbury late in the season.
“Late in the season we got knocked out of the cup by Hanham Abbotts, 1-5, after a 1-1 draw at home.”
