MEMBERS of parliament met with the secretary of state for education about the future leadership of Winterbourne Academy and Yate International Academy.

MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke Jack Lopresti and MP Luke Hall for Thornbury and Yate met yesterday with the Secretary of State for Education MP Justine Greening, to discuss the process of finding new sponsor arrangements to replace the Ridings Federation for both of the academies.

In a joint statement they said: “We met to bring to her attention to the concerns of our constituents who are parents, pupils and teachers at Winterbourne Academy and Yate International Academy.

Adding: “The secretary of state noted our concerns.”

Rebecca Clark, the regional schools commissioner for the South West England, will have a final say on any decisions.

They added: “we are planning to meet with her as soon as we can.”

The academies are looking for a new sponsor to take over from The Ridings Federation.

The two MP’s said prior to the appointment: “We acknowledge the constituents concerns over the possible bid from Oasis Community learning and note with interest the potential proposals coming forward jointly from Castle School Education Trust and Olympus trusts.”
