POLICE are appealing for information after several watches and bank cards were stolen in a home burglary last Thursday.

The attack on the home in Park Road last week happened while residents were out, with the thieves smashing glass in the back door to enter the house.

It is believed that the incident took place sometime between 2.30pm and 9.50pm, with a London Lovelinks watch and two Tissot watches being stolen, along with a number of bank cards.

Thornbury officer PC Natalie Jones said: “This sort of incident is unusual in Thornbury where people do look out for each other and call in to report anything suspicious.

“Burglars will smash the glass in windows or doors to get into houses, so I’d ask anyone who hears an alarm or the sound of breaking glass to check, safely, and if you see anyone suspicious, ring us straight away. If you don’t see anyone, do please let us know anyway.”

Following the incident, Thornbury police have begun extensive house to house visits with crime prevention advice having been given.

Officers have recommended that at this time of year, timers should be used on lights to give the impression someone is home, with motion sensing security lights being fitted around the property.

Doors should be locked and alarms set overnight as well as when going out.

They have also suggested that keys, handbags, wallets and other valuables should be kept safely out of sight, with high value items, including jewellery, being kept in a ground-anchored safe and marked with a traceable asset liquid.
