THE NHS has launched social media videos for residents in South Gloucestershire about using the most appropriate service to treat health needs.
They feature reasons that people attended A&E this year when they could have been more effectively treated elsewhere – including people who visited for a hangover, a cat scratch and hysterical laughter.
The video is part of the NHS’s Right Care First Time campaign to tackle the high numbers of people attending A&E with minor injuries which could be treated more easily via an alternative provider.
Dr Lesley Ward, Bristol CCG urgent care lead, said: “The videos are intended to raise a smile, as well as awareness about the wealth of services out there.
“But this is a serious issue – A&E departments are seeing unprecedented levels of demand.”
She added: “The campaign is all about reminding people that they will actually be treated far more quickly in community settings like a walk-in centre or minor injuries unit, or by talking to a pharmacist, than if they go to A&E.”
