VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help run Christmas Day and Boxing Day events for people who want company over the festive period in the Cam and Dursley area.

Each year Friends at Christmas helps provide friendship, food and entertainment for those who may find themselves alone, be it through family illness, disability or a recent bereavement.

Last year 50 helpers made sure there was some Christmas cheer for 75 guests.

“We rely on a huge team of helpers to make this vital community event a success,” said co-ordinator Miriam Yagud, “Each year we have a varied and interesting group of helpers from the local area and across the Stroud District.”

Supported by Churches Together, food, funds and time are donated by the community to help provide a warm welcome for anyone in the area who may want it.

Volunteers are particularly needed to help in the kitchen, with driving, serving, generally supporting guests and with entertainment.

“It’s a lovely way to spend Christmas,” Miriam added. “The guests and volunteers have a great time.

“It’s an opportunity to do something really different at Christmas, to meet new people, make friends and make a difference too.”
