A CASTLE in Thornbury has been shortlisted for a wedding award.

Thornbury Castle has been selected as a contender for the Castle Wedding Venue category for the 2017 UK Wedding Awards.

The venues were chosen by a panel of industry experts who carefully chose the nominees from hundreds of entries, and voting is now open to the public.

The 16th century grand castle in Thornbury once housed Henry VIII and his new bride Anne Boleyn, it also boasts unspoiled grounds, a vineyard and a kitchen garden.

Some of the nominees from the same category include Warwick Castle, Leeds Castle and Hedingham Castle in Essex - which are similarly considered as top romantic wedding venues.

The awards are hosted by Immediate Media’s Wedding Network brands called Hitched, Perfect Wedding, and You and Your Wedding.

They recognise the best of the UK’s bridal industry, and focus on five key areas including venues, fashion, suppliers, travel and gift lists.

Writer Zoe Jobson, of Immediate Media, said: “We are delighted with the level of entries that we have received for the UK Wedding Awards 2017.

"The range, quality and diversity of the entries is a real reflection on the talent and service levels we have in the UK wedding market.”

Thornbury Castle, and all other entries, will also be considered for the Editor’s Choice Awards; three awards selected by the editors of Hitched, Perfect Wedding and You & Your Wedding.

Their winners will be announced in spring 2017 To vote for your favourite bridal retailer, supplier, brand or venue at www.hitched.co.uk/awards.

Voting closes on Thursday, February 9. Everyone who votes will be entered in to a prize draw for the chance to a romantic two-night stay in the Ardanaiseig Hotel, Scotland including dinner for each night.
