LIDL has apologised after a mum was unable to shop at the Dursley store with her baby son because there were no suitable trolleys.

Kylie Taylor, 28, wanted to shop at the Lidl in Kingshill Road on Monday but when she arrived there were no trolleys with a child’s car seat holder.

As her son Billie is only six weeks old and cannot hold his head up, he is too young to sit in the fold-out child seat on regular trolleys.

Kylie said that when she had shopped at the Lidl before, there had been a single trolley which had a small basket at the front for holding a car seat, however it was not there on Monday and when she approached a member of staff he said he didn’t know where it had gone.

“He tried to help and suggested that I just put my son inside a normal trolley in his car seat, but that would have been dangerous as my shopping would have fallen on him,” she said.

“I didn’t have my baby sling with me to put Billie in, I couldn’t push a trolley and his pushchair at the same time, obviously I wasn’t going to leave him in the car, and I needed to do a big shop so couldn’t carry him in one hand while holding a basket in the other.

“In the end, I had to take Billie to my friend’s house so she could look after him while I went back to Lidl and did my shop.”

She added: “In the past there’s always been one trolley that I could put his car seat on. That isn’t enough because there’s often more than one parent with a small baby there.

“On Monday that trolley wasn’t there at all. I looked around the store and didn’t see anyone else using it. When I asked the shop assistant, he said he didn’t know what had happened to it.

“Obviously it’s not the end of the world, but you’d think a big company like Lidl would make sure their stores are set up for parents with young babies. Surely they’re losing customers this way – if my friend hadn’t have been home to look after Billie, I would have had to shop somewhere else.”

A number of parents have come forward to say that they too were forced to abandon their plans to shop at the Dursley Lidl because of a lack of a suitable trolley for their baby.

A Lidl spokeswoman said the company would investigate why the car-seat holder trolley wasn’t available.

She added: “We aim to offer our customers a range of trolleys to suit different requirements and were very sorry to hear that a suitable trolley was not available in this instance.

“We encourage customers to share any feedback with our customer service team through our hotline number or contact form on the website, so that it can be passed on to the relevant team.”
