EIGHT WEEKS of lane closures on the A4174 ring road will begin from Monday.

The closures, which will take place from Monday to Friday, 8pm to 6am, will be for preparation work around the Bromley Heath roundabout, including the construction of a cross over.

During this time, the west and east bound inside lanes nearest the central reservation of the Bromley Heath Viaduct on the A4174 will be closed.

The west bound and east bound carriageways will remain fully open at weekends and all other times.

This follows approval of the Bromley Heath Viaduct maintenance and widening work by the ECS Committee last month, which along with the use of the cross over, will not begin until the summer.

When complete, the cross over will enable vehicles travelling west bound to join the open section of the carriageway, whilst the west bound viaduct carriageway is closed for maintenance.

Lead member for planning and transport Cllr Colin Hunt said: “Work begins on the Bromley Heath Viaduct this summer and has a maximum duration of one year, but our aim is to try to secure additional funding to accelerate the work programme and reduce the timescale.

“This preparation work will ensure that the main work is completed as quickly as possible and with the least inconvenience.”

Mark King, South Gloucestershire Council’s head of street care and transport, said: “We need to do some preparation work to enable us to be ready for the west bound viaduct’s closure and also to get the site office and materials in place ahead of the work starting.

“Doing this preparation work now, and at times when it causes the least disruption, means we can carry out the essential maintenance work in the most efficient way possible.

“We understand that this may cause disruption and disturbance to local residents and I would like to apologise in advance and kindly ask for your patience whilst this work is taking place.”
