A SERIES of burglaries and thefts in the Thornbury and Alveston area have prompted police to remind residents to be on alert.

Officers have suggested that two burglaries that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week could be linked after intruders targeted jewellery and money.

The first incident on February 7, which took place in the Sibland area of Thornbury, was reported around 9pm after residents discovered their house had been broken into and searched.

The second incident, which took place in Alveston the following day, was discovered by a window cleaner who found the rear patio windscreen of the house had been unscrewed and taken out. It is believed that the offenders may have been disturbed during the incident.

Officers have also warned residents in more rural areas to be on their guard following a spate of horse box thefts.

Two incidents again were reported to police from the Thornbury and Alveston area, both occurred overnight; the first between February 5-6 in Lower Morton, with the second taking place between February 8-9 in Earthcott.

Farmers in the area have been alerted through the farm watch system following the incidents, with owners being reminded to make sure trailers and horse boxes are kept as securely as possible.

Police have reminded residents to always be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles or persons and report it straight away on either 101 or 999.
