A CHARITY based in Thornbury is appealing to tradesmen in the area for help in creating their new home.

Jigsaw, which works with around 100 families across South Gloucestershire with disabled children, have been granted a two-year use of the Armstrong Hall’s bakery annex, which would include an open play area and office space.

Among the services offered by the charity include support groups for parents and grandparents, one-to-one music therapy, holiday activities and a special education needs and sensory lending library.

They have also launched a mini-volunteer scheme for siblings and the more able children to help with fundraising and the younger children who use the charity.

“We work with children with all manner of disabilities ranging from undiagnosed to life limiting or threatening conditions and for those families, we are a lifeline,” said the charity’s founder Tor Goodman.

“We are really grateful to the council for letting us use this space, which we hope to make good use of.”

A spokesman from Thornbury town Council said they were pleased to support the charity and make good use of the rooms while they assess the long term redevelopment of the Armstrong Hall facilities.

The spokesman added: “The work that Jigsaw undertakes will make excellent use of this redundant space which will provide real benefits to children and families in Thornbury and the surrounding area.”

Moving would give the charity a permanent base to work from, with the activity and admin sides currently being run respectively at St Mary’s Church hall and Ms Goodman’s living room.

The only problem is that the new site is not yet built for purpose, unfurnished with damp areas and a roof leak – which alone is expected to cost the charity between £1,500 and £2,000.

As a result, the charity have appealed to the public and to tradesmen to help them convert the site into a safe and welcoming place - including electrical help to move power sockets, carpentry, window repair, flooring and plumbing.

Help is also needed to erect a stud wall to partition the main room as well decorate the site with unwanted furniture and utilities.
