A 38-YEAR-OLD man arrested in connection with a woman's death in South Gloucestershire has been released on bail.

The body of a 43-year-old woman was found in Hill Street, Kingswood, on Sunday by a member of the public, which police believe may be linked at a road traffic collision.

Officers have said that they received a call an hour before the body was found, concerning a woman who was walking in the carriageway of Hill Street – but following a search, they were unable to find her.

A 38-year-old man was arrested the following morning on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, but was released today on bail.

Detective inspector Louise Boyce said: “This is an extremely tragic incident in which a woman has very sadly died.

“The woman’s next of kin have been informed and we’re providing them with all the support they need.

“We have a team of officers and staff working on this and despite an arrest being made this is still an active and ongoing inquiry.

“A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today to establish the cause of the woman’s death and following this a formal identification procedure will take place.

“I’m really grateful for all the support we’ve already been given by the public but we still need people to call in with any information they have.”

Police have asked for anyone with information that could assist their investigation to call the 24-hour enquiry line on 101, and tell the call handler you are phoning in relation to log number 43 of February 12.
