MORE than £1,500 was raised for a breast cancer charity in Yate last month at a quiz hosted by the Sodbury and Yate Business Association.

Almost 30 teams took part in the event at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre on Friday January 27, wracking their brains to answer the questions put out by quizmaster Keith Reynolds, with nine businesses from the area sponsoring the quiz rounds.

The £50 cash prize was claimed by the intriguingly named “Weird Fruit and Posh Nuts” team from Wickwar.

A wealth of raffle prizes donated by residents and businesses were on offer to those brave enough to enter, with more than £500 being raised from entries.

Funds raised through the event were donated to breast cancer charity BUST, and with so many having enjoyed themselves during the evening’s festivities, Sodbury and Yate Business Association (SYBA) joint-chairman Linda Banister was compelled to thank everyone for their contribution.

She said: “Yate Outdoor Sports Centre is a great venue and we have enjoyed working with the volunteers here.

“Thank you to all our members and friends who supported this event, particularly to Graham Teague from Lloyds Bank who hopes to provide us with £500 from The Matching Funds Scheme.”

SYBA meet every second Monday evening from 6pm to 7pm. Those interested in joining are encouraged to contact them on 01454 881954.
