The ENVIRONMENT Agency (EA) is planning to look into the risk of river flooding in Yate and Chipping Sodbury and are seeking the opinions of residents and local businesses.
They plan to host a public exhibition on Wednesday, March 1 between 2.30pm and 7.30pm at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.
The EA would like to hear people’s views on any past flooding problems as well as opinions on their initial plans and options for flood protection.
Cllr Chris Willmore (Yate North) said that the consultation is “extremely important” and particularly affects people from St Johns Way through to the centre of Sodbury, the Elms, the Ridge, past the Riverside complex and out along Greenways Road and Cranleigh Court through to Stover Road.
She said: "With a river running right through the town, flood risks are a threat.
"We can see the risk areas on the online Environment Agency flood risk maps, but the question is what do they plan to do about it?
"In other places they’ve tackled risks by putting in long big concrete barriers, or providing large flooded areas to hold water in.
"Nobody wants the Riverside area flooded again - but we also don’t want to lose the chance to see kingfishers or stroll along the riverbank."
