WITH HUNDREDS of new homes on Thornbury’s doorstep in the form of large prospective developments, the town is on the verge of mass expansion.

And while many are complaining about the pretty little market town being swallowed whole and distorted into a commuter town, it is the lack of a growing infrastructure that the masses continue to cry out for.

Not all infrastructure improvements come in the form of car parks and health centres, which are widely regarded as the most sought after services to upgrade, and it has to be recognised that the social side of life, like sporting facilities also needs improvement.

Knowing this, why is it ok for our open spaces to be under threat from large new estates, but when it comes to putting up some floodlights, permission is delayed to make way for a survey, while if it were houses, the bats would probably be given the boot.

Everyone in the town is clearly quite frustrated by this, as there is a continually one-sided narrative from the town and maybe it is time for the developers and officers to take note.

Realistically the people in the town should be given more of a say. Maybe it is just time to make a bigger noise.
