A CARE home in Wotton-under-Edge had reason to celebrate last week, as two of its residents reached their diamond wedding anniversary.

Married couple Norman, 85, and Glenys Dursley, 80, live together in Kingswood Lodge Care Home, using two rooms as a bedroom and sitting room.

At a party last Thursday, they celebrated reaching the 60-year marriage milestone with family and other residents, who dressed up smartly for the occasion.

Wearing homemade button holes and their best clothes, the couple tucked in to a chicken curry and assorted party food.

A specially designed cake, featuring a photo of the couple on their wedding day, was also shared out.

Suzanne Thomas, activities co-ordinator at the home, said: “It was a lovely day and all of the residents really enjoyed it – they were still talking about it the next day and saying how wonderful it was."

As with all 60-year diamond wedding anniversaries, the Queen wrote to the husband and wife to offer her congratulations.

A card, signed by the royal, said: “I am so pleased to know that you are celebrating your Diamond Wedding anniversary.

“I send my congratulations and best wishes to you on such a special occasion.”

Norman and Glenys married on February 23 1957 in Henbury Bristol, after meeting at a Simonds Brewery.

They went on to have three children, Paul, Mark and Linda, and lived most of their life in Hawkesbury Upton.

After spending some time in assisted living in Yate, the couple now reside together at Kingswood Lodge, a converted grade-II listed facility that offers residential care and nursing.
