AN INSURANCE broker in Aust is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week with the one-year-anniversary of their apprenticeship scheme launched last year.

Brightside Group, who are based near the M48 Severn Crossing, launched the scheme in 2016 with a series of visits to nearby schools to talk about careers in the insurance industry.

The scheme saw four energetic young people join the company and beginning a programme that would see them gain industry recognised qualifications, including an NVQ level three in providing financial services.

Now well into their apprenticeships, Jessica, Asher, Courtney and Michael have already achieved an IF1 certificate in insurance – the first of their Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications - and are already progressing towards the next level.

Asher said: “The apprenticeship with Brightside has given me training I wouldn’t have received if I’d gone for a standard job. I’m broadening my knowledge of insurance every day.”

Jessica said: “I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship programme. It’s given me a great opportunity to learn about insurance and customer service in a working environment.”

Suzie Noble, Brightside’s chief people officer, said: “A college education isn’t for everyone. Our apprenticeship scheme provides a real alternative and gives young people in our area a fabulous opportunity to get a head start or building a career within our industry.

“What’s most valuable to any business is harnessing the passion and energy its people have to offer. I’ve been nothing but impressed by the talent and commitment our four apprentices have shown and I’ll be watching their progress closely.”
