TWO representatives of Chipping Sodbury travelled to France this week after the chairman of the town's twinning, Cesson, passed away.

Gérard Lagny, Chairman of the English section of Cesson sans Frontières, died suddenly at the age of 69.

Sodbury and District Twinning Association were represented at the funeral service on Friday, March 3 by Pam Pearce (Secretary) and Lilian Bennett (Treasurer).

The church was filled with family, friends and colleagues from his former workplace at Safran Aircraft Engines.

Pam Pearce said: “Gérard’s passion was aircraft and on his retirement, he had continued to volunteer at the Safran Museum.

“It is a matter of regret that he will never see Aerospace Bristol, the Museum due to open in Summer 2017.

“It was Concorde, which will be exhibited there, which brought together the twinned towns of Cesson and Chipping Sodbury.”

The concept of town twinning emerged after the Second World War in 1947 and was intended to encourage understanding between different cultures and to encourage tourism.

Chipping Sodbury is twinned with Cesson, a town located south-east of Paris.
