YOUNG people across South Gloucestershire are getting stuck in to British Science Week by taking part in a number of events at local libraries.

A wide variety of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) activities have been on offer this week - and there are more to follow at the weekend.

The events have been organised to celebrate British Science Week, which runs from March 10-19 and aims to celebrate the best that science has to offer.

A STEM family fun fair will take place at Yate Library on Saturday, March 18 between 10.30am and 3.30pm, and will feature games, sideshows and the mysteries of everyday science.

There will be a number of science experiments to take part in on the day, including mysterious smell tests, a marble run and light bending.

Minecraft fans will be able to code their own game between 10.30am and 12.30pm, while budding engineers can try their hand as a Lego club between 2pm and 3pm.

A Super Science Saturday will also take place at Staple Hill library on Saturday 18 March from 2pm to 4pm, which will explore the theme of change with fun experiments and activities.

Communities Committee Chair Cllr Heather Goddard said: “British Science Week is a celebration of the best of British science, technology, engineering and maths, and provides the perfect opportunity to inspire our young people for their future careers.”
