PUPILS at a primary school in Iron Acton have splished and sploshed their way to raising hundreds of pounds for a children’s charity.

Youngsters from Iron Acton Primary School took part in a sponsored ‘wellie walk’ on Tuesday, March 7 after being inspired to support the NSPCC at a special assembly about staying safe.

Over £1,700 was raised by the pupils – a total described as “staggering” by the charity, given the school has just 76 children on roll.

The grand total was boosted by the efforts of four pupils in particular, who each surpassed the £100 mark.

Four-year-olds Alfie George, Sienna Smith and Riley James-Wain collected £197, £176 and £144 respectively, while Theo Foote, 6, added another £113.

Headteacher Mike Riches said that he was "very impressed" by all of the fundraising efforts.

"The wellie walk and fundraising efforts were both a fantastic experience for the children.

"They all enjoyed getting out and about around the village."

Maddy Jarrett helped to deliver the recent NSPCC school assembly, which teaches primary school pupils across the county - in an age-appropriate and interactive way – about signs of abuse and who they can share any worries with.

She said: “To raise this amount of money at a relatively small school is absolutely staggering – we cannot thank the pupils, staff and their sponsors enough for their amazing support.

“The ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ programme is all about encouraging young people to talk about any concerns they may have with a trusted adult.

It is fantastic to see how supportive this school has been and these funds will go towards helping us to pass that message on to even more children.

“A special mention must go to Alfie, Sienna, Riley and Theo who really went above and beyond in their fundraising!”
