THIS was our fourth competition of the season.
Unlike the other competitions, this had a set subject: “The Colour of Night”.
The competition was judged by Peter McCloskey of Bristol Photographic Society.
Peter is a well known member of the Royal Photographic Society and sits on their Travel Photography judging panel.
He travels widely and, when he visited us, he had just returned from Burma.
As usual, the competition was divided into three sections: Prints, Beginner Projected and Advanced Projected.
There were a total of 83 entries making for a full evening (and a challenge for Peter!).
In the Prints class, in First place was “Caerphilly Castle 1” by Vincent Mann.
This was followed by “Bristol-Road to the Airport” by Graham Peers in second place, and in third place ”Clevedon Pier Sunset“ by Edward Kilmartin.
In the Beginner Projected class Christine Crabb came first with “View from the Abbey Tower”.
Second was Janet Mann with “Calming Colours of the Night”. Sean Jay came third with “Macey’s”.
The greatest number of entries was for the Advanced Projected class where the competition was, as a result, greatest.
In first place came “Skating at the Mall” by Rodney Crabb.
Ken Pearce took both second and third places with “Lady of the Night” and in third place, “Thornbury Lights”.
Overall, the set subject provided a challenge for some of the photographers.
