A MAN was hospitalised last night after firefighters raced to tackle a fire that had broken out in a bungalow in Winterbourne.
Crews from Patchway and Kingswood fire stations were dispatched at 8.34pm to the home on Flax Pits Lane.
On arrival, firefighters found a female resident at the address and her three children, all below the age of 10, outside the property, while a male resident and two neighbours were inside attempting to tackle the fire.
Crews quickly evacuated the men from the building before extinguishing the fire using a high pressure hose reel.
An ambulance was called for one of the men, in his 30’s, who had suffered burns and smoke inhalation from the fire.
He was given treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital.
The fire which began in a bedroom of the residence, is believed to have started accidentally, also causing heat damage and light smoke damage to the property.
