DURSLEY Town Council is asking for all users to respect the area's green spaces after several instances of vandalism.

In the past week play equipment and signage has been the target of vandals who have sprayed obscenities and other graffiti at Kingshill Play Park.

The chairman of Green Spaces, Cllr Alex Stennett said: "If anyone has any information on those responsible for this mindless vandalism, I would ask you contact the local police by telephoning 101."

At Highfields Play Area the town council also received reports of dog excrement left on the field.

The Mayor, Cllr Neil Grecian, stated: "We do have improvement works ongoing this year, and I look forward to the Community Day on May 29 at Highfields, but it is very disappointing to hear of dog mess being left behind when there are bins provided within the play area."

At the War Memorial Recreation Ground on Monday, March 27 the grounds staff collected three full black bin bags which had been littered over a 24-hour period.

The town council have to budget approximately £8,000 every year to arrange for litter and other mess to be uplifted from green spaces throughout the town.

Councillor’s would much prefer to allocate this money to improving the facilities.

The town clerk John Kay said: "Every occasion where we have to repair or remove damage or vandalised equipment costs the council additional money and impacts the work schedule for the grounds staff.

"I would ask all users of the green spaces to use the bins provided or better still take your litter home and recycle as much as possible."
