A LANE of the M5 northbound was closed near Stinchcombe following a serious collision.
A car left the road and crashed between junctions 13 (Stroud) and 14 (Falfield) between the Taits Hill and Echo Lane bridges at about 2.45pm leaving the woman driver with serious injuries.
Fire engines from Wotton-under-Edge and Stroud attended and firefighters were required to free the woman from her car.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said that three rapid response vehicles and an ambulance were sent to the scene where a woman was treated for head and leg injuries.
All lanes have now reopened but delays in the area are likely to remain.
Anyone who witnessed the incident but hasn't spoken to officers should call 101 and quote incident 289 of March 29.
