PUPILS at Uplands Playgroup took part in a ‘mini-muddy’ to follow in the footsteps of one the centre’s parents to raise money for new play equipment.

One of the centre's fathers, Rich Williams, competed in the Forest Warrior Challenge in the Forest of Dean on Sunday, a brutal 10km obstacle course involving steep climbs and plunges into freezing water.

He is aiming to raise £150 to replace old play equipment at the playgroup, the centre’s adorable ‘mini-mudders’ ran an obstacle course of their own on Monday to raise a further £250.

Debbie Scobell has been the centre’s play leader for the past four years, she said: “It’s been really good, all the children have taken part and got involved, they’ve all enjoyed taking part and have been cheering each other on, they showed great sportsmanship.

“We can’t get them to stop running around now, they’ve enjoyed it so much!”

The course featured a ball pit, tunnels, netting and the tough task of walking on buckets attached to string.

In the past few years that Debbie has been at the centre staff at the playgroup have undertaken many fundraisers, the largest involved raising funds and applying for grants to pay for the £60,000 complete refurbishment of the building.

But now some of their playgroup equipment has become a little worse for wear, they will be hosting further mini-muddies to replace these.

Donations are being pooled into Rich's MyDonate page which runs until April 14.
