Brendon Smith, special sectional officer of Painswick Police Station pictured with his son Richard Smith, a volunteer cadet.
Richard, 17, was a member of Gloucestershire Constabulary Volunteer Cadets while his dad Brendon, 54, is a special section officer based in Painswick.
After 27 years of service Brendon, a lifelong resident of Whiteshill, had reached retirement age and would be stepping down from the force the following week.
His son, a trainee electrician, was all set to take up the baton of law enforcement by joining the specials when he turns 18 the year after in 1998.
