THREE men from Dursley have been charged with attacking Amo Singh, who was assaulted and run over outside his shop.

Mr Singh, 33, and a 15-year-old boy were attacked outside Premier Stores in Cashes Green, Stroud on Sunday, March 26.

Two men, Jonathan French-Bell, 27, and his brother Stephen Randlesome, 19, have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Singh and actual bodily harm to the boy.

A third man, Benjamin Strange, 21, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Singh.

All three men are well-known in Dursley and have lived in the town, but gave a relative’s address as their listed place of residence when they appeared in court earlier this week.

French-Bell and Strange attended Rednock School

Randlesome and French-Bell, listed as living in Victoria Drive in Eastington, Stonehouse, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Monday and were remanded in custody.

Strange, who gave an address in Mitre Pitch, Wotton-under-Edge, went before the same court on Tuesday and was also remanded in custody.
All three men will now appear at Gloucester Crown Court on May 12.

CCTV footage of the incident in Queens Drive, Cashes Green, shows a group of people arrive in two cars before the 15-year-old boy was attacked in front of the shop.

Mr Singh was assaulted by members of the group when he went outside.
He was hit by a car and then run over as he lay on the ground.

As a result, Mr Singh suffered a head wound which required stitches, bruises all over his body, and needed two metal plates inserted in a broken wrist.

The incident has shocked the Stroud and Dursley community and, because the 15-year-old boy is Polish and Mr Singh is a Sikh, there were initially fears that the attacks may have been racially motivated.

However, a Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: “We believe those involved in this incident know each other and the motivation was not related to race or ethnicity.”
