HUNDREDS of people flocked to Kingsgate Park last week to attend Yate Town Council’s annual Easter Egg hunt.

The event took place on Easter Monday and proved to be the "biggest" one yet, with around 1,500 people turning up.

It is the twelfth successful year for the popular event, which is organised each year by Yate Town Council in conjunction with Friends of Kingsgate Park.

Judith Cameron, Secretary of the Friends of Kingsgate Park commented that the event was a “brilliant success” and that the number of people taking part was the “biggest ever”.

She added: “We did worry we would run out of eggs at one point. Thank you to everyone who helped on the day, also the council for their organisation and for gathering all the eggs for the day.”

Over 750 chocolate eggs were donated by businesses in the area to be awarded to children who took part in the chocolate egg hunt.

Sponsors included All Signs, Avon Sports Ground Maintenance, The Childrens Playground Company, Connells Estate Agents, J. Hollisters, Landcare Nurseries Ltd., Murray Hire, NSG Security Group Ltd (UK), Re-energise, The Royal Oak, Sword Apac, Vintage Birdcage Cakery, Waitrose Supermarket, Wards Solicitors and Yate and District Rotary Club.

A further 33 children entered an Easter Bonnet parade where they were awarded a prize.

Following the egg hunt and easter bonnet parade, parents and children stayed in the park to picnic and enjoy the play area.

Councillor John Ford, Chair of the Yate Town Council Events Sub-Committee, said: “The sun shone on the annual Easter Egg Event in Kingsgate Park.

“Hundreds of children searched the park with their Easter Egg Hunt sheet for Easter eggs generously donated by local businesses."

Yate Town Council and Friends of Kingsgate Park are now working towards the Community Music Festival, which will take place in the park on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25.
