ORGANISERS behind Chipping Sodbury’s annual Victorian Day are appealing for volunteers.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and heralds the beginning of Christmas celebrations in Chipping Sodbury.
For many years the event ran on a Friday, however 2016 marked the first year that the day was held on a Saturday.
A spokeswoman for the committee explained that this would enable more people to enjoy the variety of entertainment on offer.
She said: "The decision to change the day to a Saturday was made after much debate.
"As most people were at their day jobs [on the Friday], we struggled to fill entertainment and stalls.
"We were surprised about how much negative feed back we had via social media when we announced the day changes.
"However we are confident we have proved the day can be a great event as an all day affair."
She added that families last year "enjoyed being able to make a day of the event", instead of "rushing out for an hour or two in the evening".
Victorian Day organisers are well underway into planning this year's event, which will include all the usual festive entertainment and stalls, but they need help from volunteers to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
People wishing to help out should email victorianday2015@hotmail.com to volunteer their services or request more information.
The next committee meeting is set to take place at 2pm on Thursday, May 18 at the Chipping Sodbury Council Offices
